I look at résumés all the time, so I first look for your objective. Make it very clear and decisive and one of the first things to read. Also use bullet points, indents, color, any way to make your resume easy to get through. Too wordy résumés will be disregarded...

• Keep it up to date.
• Tailor the “summary description” section to fit the job for which you are applying (while remaining truthful).
• Explain any gaps in employment in the cover letter.
• Try to keep it to one page.
• Tailor the cover letter to address the skills and experience advertised.
• Make sure there are no spelling errors.
